Cooperation between Cambodian National Police and FBI Improved
AKP Phnom Penh, May 24, 2011 –Both Cambodian and U.S. senior officials reaffirmed that the cooperation between the Cambodia’s National Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been steadily improved, especially in the crackdown on human trafficking, drug smuggling, cross border crimes and other related issues.
The opening of a legal attaché at the U.S. Embassy in 2008 reflected that the cooperation between the Cambodian National Police and FBI is making progress, said Deputy National Police Chief Sok Phal during a press conference held at the Ministry of Interior last Friday following a week-long training course in interviewing techniques.
The cooperation includes sex and drug trafficking and extraditing criminals to the U.S. , he said, adding that the fruitful cooperation between the two institutions has helped ensure security for both countries and the region as well.
For his part, Patrick Gibbons, the FBI’s Cambodia representative, also praised for the close cooperation between FBI and the National Police of Cambodia. FBI cooperates with Cambodia’s National Police not only in training courses, but also in many operations to combat offenses and criminality, he said.
